Charlotte Motor Speedway
While our initial plan for the overnight between Virginia and Georgia was to boondock in the parking lot of Bass Pro Shops in Charlotte, NC, we learned upon pulling in, that particular Bass Pro Shops was part of a shopping mall that did not allow overnight parking. We asked at the Customer Service counter if there were any local options and they named the ‘usual suspects’: WalMart, Cracker Barrel, etc, but after Steve had a brief conversation with the Concord Sheriff, he recommended Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The sheriff mentioned that there would be a charge, but he didn’t know what it was. We decided to scope it out as it was getting dark. It was easy enough to find with GPS, its actually called Camping World Racing Resort at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

We pulled in, and since it was late there was no one on duty. There were rows of stoned slab sites separated by small picket fences; If you are able to pull over to the small brown building that serves as the office, there are maps (as shown in pictures) available to help you decide where to park your rig. If you are lucky enough to get there when the office is open, they will surely assist and guide you to a spot.

We chose a pull-thru site (most are pull-thru) that was able to accommodate our 45-ft rig and the Jeep. We did not even have to un-hook the Jeep, and we had full hookup (water, sewer and 50-amp electric)! The area was quiet with quite a few campers docked, and it was very clean and well-manicured. At $35 for the night, it was a great solution to our overnight needs, but this camping area is designed of course for people seeking to attend races or just to explore the track. Racing practice began around 7am at the track; the noise was not disturbing, and of course if you are staying more than an overnight – that’s why youre there, right?

All-in-all, S&S RV Adventures would recommend Charlotte Motor Speedway for an overnight ‘pit stop’, its clean, felt safe, and a great rate for full hookup in easily maneuverable sites.
